Tomato & Rice Soup

Ingredients
- 1 lb. beef cubed
- 1 T. shortening
- 2 c. water
- 2 c. stewed tomatoes
- 1–1/2 t. pepper
- 1/2 t. salt
- 3/4 c. rice (uncooked)
Instructions
- Brown beef in shortening and drain.
- Add water, tomatoes, pepper, and salt.
- Bring to a brisk boil.
- Add rice and allow to boil for a second time.
- Cover and reduce heat.
- Simmer for 40 minutes
